ESMA opens consultation on annual EMIR reporting framework for EU firms' clearing activity at recognised third-country CCPs

ESMA has launched a public consultation on proposed RTS and ITS under EMIR that would introduce an annual reporting obligation covering EU clearing members' and clients' exposures to recognised third-country CCPs. Once finalised, the rules will create a harmonised, structured reporting framework giving supervisory authorities consistent visibility into the scale, characteristics, and risk profile of those exposures. Firms subject to the obligation should begin mapping what data they already report through existing channels, as the proposal explicitly limits new requirements to information not already available to ESMA or competent authorities. The consultation closes on 12 October 2026; a Final Report will follow.
